American space-research agency NASA released an update for the free NASA App for iPhone and iPod Touch on Monday. The NASA App 2.0 offers many new features and comes with a fresh new user interface.

The NASA App 2.0 is the first major redesign since it was first released way back in 2009. The new user interface is fast and very intuitive. Some new features that have been added to the NASA App include maps, information and links to every NASA visitor center, weather forecasts in the spacecraft sighting opportunities section, a section about NASA’s programs, and the ability to save, print and access favorite items, and also bookmark images. The NASA App 2.0 runs only on devices running iOS 5.0 or higher.

The NASA app for iPhone and iPod Touch allows people to explore NASA content on their iPhone and iPod Touch and experience the thrill of watching the NASA team at work, all in one great app. The iPhone and iPod Touch app has been downloaded by approximately 4.7 million users so far.

The NASA App is available on a variety of platforms- the iPhone, the iPod touch, the iPad and even Android smartphones and tablets. It offers users a huge amount of NASA content including videos on-demand, several thousands of images, featured content, news stories and breaking news, live streaming of NASA Television, NASA’s Third Rock online radio station, mission and launch information, etc. If star-gazing is your hobby, you can find many sighting opportunities for the International Space Station and track the current position of the ISS. The app also lets users share NASA content with their friends in Facebook, Twitter or email.

The NASA app has been downloaded by over 8.8 million people across the different platforms.
